(OP)
Explorer's open, showing a list of part files.
I double click a part file.

Quickly a dialog box comes up with the red circle and white x inside it with the verbage "There was a problem sending the command to the program." and an alert sound chimes.

Following that Solidworks starts up and displays the file I had double clicked.

Why's there an error message when no error occurs?

RE: opening *.sldprt file from explorer, by dbl clking error

In answer to your question ... I don't know.

However, receiving an error message when there is no error, makes up for the times when an error does occur, but no error message is given.

RE: opening *.sldprt file from explorer, by dbl clking error

I would ask what the error was. Just because your file opened doesn't mean there wasn't some sort of error. There could be some sort of file association error occurring, perhaps a dangling *.dll. It's Windows and SolidWorks, do you expect flawless performance?

Install ccleaner. It's a great program that will help keep your HD clean by removing dangling bits and pieces.

Try opening SW first, then double-click on file.

If you're going to open SW first, save the double-click time and just drag and drop the file into SW.

We are getting lots of flakey dialogue box stuff with Win7 & SW2010.  We'll probably have to live with them until a Windoze sp. deals with them.
