Round wire sweeps along a helix and looks fine. But if I try a rectangular shape it slowly turns on the wire as it travels up the helix.

How do you place a control on this?

TIA

Dave

RE: Diificulty with recatangular wire spring NX 7.5...

OK, what you do is start by creating your helical curve.  Then create a sketching using the 'On Path' Type and selecting the end point of the helix.  Using the new NX 7.5 Sketch Polygon function, create a 4-sided Polygon with the origin at the Sketch Datum Point which should be at the end of the Helix.  Orient the rectangle as desiredusing an Angle parameter as well as the size.

Now, using...

Insert -> Sweep -> Swept...

...select the rectangle as your 'Section' and the Helix as your single 'Guide'.  When the preview is displayed you will probably notice that the swept profile is twisted.  Before you accept the result, expand the section of the dialog titled 'Section Options' as well as the 'Orientation Method' sub-section.  Now select the 'Orientation' option 'Vector Direction' and when the little blue WCS-like object appears, select the 'arrow' which is aligned with the axis of the Helix and you should immediately see the swept solid rebuild itself so that it's no longer twisted.  Just hit OK and you should be good to go.
