How to delete(Purge) blocks in Solidwork Part

How to delete(Purge) blocks in Solidwork Part

How to delete(Purge) blocks in Solidwork Part

(OP)
Hi

I have Part1 with Block1 in it. Then I save this as another part so now I have Part2 with Block1.

Then I change some details in Block1 in Part1, I do not want to repeat the process in Part2. So I copy Block1 & paste into Part2 but all I get is same Block1 which was earlier in the Part2 file.

I think reason is the Block1 is still in the memory(just like AutoCAD blocks) & when I try to paste it inserts the old block as the name is same. But I tried changing the name without success.

Only way it worked was to save the block on hard drive after changes then drag it into Part2 & "Link to File". That seems to overwrite the block in the memory.

My question "Is there any other way to delete or Purge the unused blocks from the memory of the file?"

Thanks

I have not seen this issue.
Did you try closing SW and reopening?
Shutting down PC may clear it.

I had this issue at 2 different occasions in last 2 days & I restarted SolidWorks/system between sessions.

I even tried deleting the block from sketch in Part2 then closing the file(with save) but on reopening it somehow againg has that block in memory.

Though blocks may come from their own file, they are stored in the model file itself (kinda like AutoCAD).  When you delete the block from the file, it should exit memory too.  Maybe you have more than one copy of the block in the model?
