AGONY: new install SW2010SP0 on Win7Pro-64
AGONY: new install SW2010SP0 on Win7Pro-64
(OP)
Seeking clues from anybody.
I have a new Dell desktop Win7Pro-64, almost virgin, hardly anything installed on it. Have been struggling to get a good install of SW2010SP0 on it. Many, many attempts over the last few weeks. I am a SW Add-In program VAR and get my SW directly from Dassault Systemes for my customer support, so I don't have a local SW VAR that I can call for tech support, am forced to work directly with SW tech support via email (arrgh).
Actions:
1. Attempted install with license#1, User Access Control active, SW attempted to run but threw error of required componenents not installed. Finally SW VAR support informs me that I should be using license#2.
2. Attempted normal install with license#2 & User Acces Control enabled & SW Installation Mgr, immediately showed error about components not installed correctly. Verified Administrator rights, anti-virus off, firewall OK, etc.
3. Advised to disable UAC, uninstall + reinstall: same results.
4. Attempted #3 but with repair: same results.
5. Advised to bypass normal DVD autorun and use another setup file buried deep in DVD folder structure: same.
6. Multiple times with variations: uninstalled, deleted SW folders, cleaned registry, attempt fresh install: SW startup fails due to MS Visual C++ Runtime Library errors. Apparently something screwy is happening with the redistributable files that SW installs.
7. Advised to uninstall all redistributables, attempt reinstall: same results.
Can anyone offer any insights?

If that doesn't allow installation of SW2010, try installing an older version of SW.

Odd--I've never had installation issues in the past.
I posted some of what I tried and learned along the way on the main SW forum. Maybe something there would help?

tygerdawg, follow CBL's suggestion. I just bought a new Dell XPS studio 9000 for my home and this is how I installed it. I would also grab the lastest service pack version to download. Never start with SP 0 and don't use the DVD's.

Am trying everything before going to the extreme of reformat/reinstall Win7 on a new, virgin PC. Utterly unbelievable that a software package is released to the marketplace that would screw up a new PC on the first pass installation such that it requires an OS reinstall.

Whenever I get a new pre-loaded computer, the first thing I do is reformat and reinstall the OS.

What setup are you talking about? There are only 2 install methods:
1) Normal DVD install
2) Admin image
Outside of that there are no others.

DVD:/swwi/data/setup.exe
and doesn't include all the baggage associated with the SW Installation Mgr.
My original problem appears to be isolated to the installation files on my months-old DVD conflicting with my new Win7Pro-64 OS. Strictly my opinion based on the evidence.
Using the SW IM gave me an unstable installation which was fully goofed up after repair/modification. It was suggested to use this "other" setup file. That one gave me a semi-stable installation....once. Then it degraded to failure.

Sounds like a bad DVD... did you just try and download it instead?
