lathe thread-cutting dial

lathe thread-cutting dial

(OP)
I have an old lathe in the machine shop, which has an indicator dial that has dual numbers.  However, the machine is so old no documentation can be found inhouse and/or online.  Have tried to contact mfg'r with no avail.  Anyone wanna take a shot in breaking the code?  Will upload photos tomorrow

RE: lathe thread-cutting dial

Metric and imperial?

RE: lathe thread-cutting dial

(OP)
lathe will do both, metric and imperial

RE: lathe thread-cutting dial

When in doubt, mark the dial with a marker and use the same position to engage each pass.  Does it have a quick change gearbox that is marked with the available pitches, or is it a change gear system?

A photo would speak volumes.

Go over to the local trade school and find the oldest machining teacher you can they will probably know -- if that fails find out who just retired and they will probably consult for a pub lunch.

Tony at www.lathes.co.uk has a pretty big library of manuals and the like. Might be worth a call.
