Surfaces to Solids?

Surfaces to Solids?

Surfaces to Solids?

(OP)
We received a vary large stp. file that we need help with. They are axles and we don't need to know every little bolt and washer that goes on them we just need them for placement. We have imported the file but it is so big that anything we put the axles in it is hard to work on or open because of the size. The axles imported as a bunch of surfaces is there a way to make the axle a complete solid instead to make it faster? If there are any other methods to help please tell.

RE: Surfaces to Solids?

Can you zip and attach the file here?
Perhaps a "shrinkwrapped" version would solve your problem.

RE: Surfaces to Solids?

I presume it is coming in as a collection of parts, and this is what I do, but the parts are usually solids.

If you start a new part in the assembly, exit the sketch it starts into, and join components you need. Then open the file from the browser, save to a more appropriate name and break the links.

It should help. Surfaces may work somewhat different. Or post a zip like rollupswx suggested, and one of us might be able to help.

RE: Surfaces to Solids?

Try performing an iges in and out, that will perform a good amount of healing and make make it a solid for you

No i can not receive this file in any other format. No I didn't run the Import Diagnostic tools, should that be my next step???

RE: Surfaces to Solids?

import diagnostics can help making solids from surfaces, you might need to do some manual surface repairs, then iges in & out will also fix some things,
heals as many faces as you can, then look at fixing the gaps
whatever gaps you can't heal, manually surface in patches
then iges in & out will knit it all together & possibly make you a solid, if you have filled in all the gaps
