Stainless Steel Bolt - Factor of Safety

Stainless Steel Bolt - Factor of Safety

Stainless Steel Bolt - Factor of Safety

(OP)
Does anybody know what a reasonable factor of safety on the shear strength of a stainless steel bolt in a bearing type connection is?  And just as important, where is this documented and do you know the reasoning behind the F.S.?

And speaking of shear strength, is 0.6 times the ultimate tensile a good approximation of shear strength for a stainless steel bolt?  I'm specifically thinking of 300 series stainless steel that meet ASTM F593.

BTW, if it's not clear from the context I'm talking about ASD for structures.

Thanks
