Driving Point vs Equiv Circuit Shunt Resistance

Driving Point vs Equiv Circuit Shunt Resistance

im trying to determine the resistance to ground of a substation, the software im using gives two resistances, driving point and equivalent circuit shunt resistance, does anyone know the difference?

RE: Driving Point vs Equiv Circuit Shunt Resistance

johnhos,
If you are trying to measure the resistance of your grounding system with respect to the remote earth, then the usual method is fall of potential. In that case there is no issue of Driving Point or eqt resistance as you mentioned. So
1)What is the intention of your test?
2)What is your test method?
3)What is your test equipment make & model?

im not physically testing the ground resistance at this point, i will use fall of poential method after the substation is built. im estimating it now before i build it, the software im using will estimate the ground resistance with the grid i have designed in the soil at the location. I have already measured the soil resistivity at the site. The software gives the estimated ground resistance, but gives both driving point and equivalent circuit shunt resistance. I dont understand the difference between these two definitions of resistance.

What software are you using?
