Batch import and rename

Batch import and rename

Batch import and rename

(OP)
Guys,

I have been given 512 files (assy, parts, & drawings) and want to import them all into PDMLink, and at the same time attach a project prefix to each filename to ensure no duplication in the database.

Is there a way of importing these as a batch and simultaneously renaming them?

Thanks

Dave

RE: Batch import and rename

Do the rename first, then do the import.
If you do the import first, you may have conflicts.

If you know that existing files in PDMLink are identical to some that you want to import AND use the existing files, then do the import and rename.

If i rename out of PDMLink, I would need to have every drawing and part in session and rename them one by one, or the drawings will lose the link to the parts. Thats a helluva job.

I can import them directly into a workspace, and set them all as 'new' parts even if some exist with the same name in Commonspace. Then i can do a global rename of everything in the workspace to attach a project prefix.

Turns out with family table instances i have ended up with over 3000 files to rename, i had one go at it and it took an hour before it failed' as some of The filenames exceed 31 characters. now i have to hunt down the long filenamex and rename these ones individually.

Nothing is ever easy is it?
