Anyone have the 1971 Southern Standard Building Code?

Anyone have the 1971 Southern Standard Building Code?

Anyone have the 1971 Southern Standard Building Code?

(OP)
I am in the process of trying to design a parapet extension for a building that was built in 1973.  We have not been able to get ahold of existing drawings and I am trying to make some assumptions based on what the existing CMU wall would have been designed for.  The building is 14 feet tall and is in the coastal zone of Florida.  I have found the 1969 and 1973 codes and of course they both have a different design load listed.  1969 lists 25psf for walls under 30feet in the coastal zone and 1973 lists 33psf.  Does anyone have the 1971 code so I can determine if it was 25psf or 33psf or somewhere in between?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

RE: Anyone have the 1971 Southern Standard Building Code?

I just bought a copy of the 1970 UBC from the ICC website.  They have all of the Standard codes as well.  Cost is $80 for non-members for a pdf download.

If you let me know the aproximate location of the project I can give you an idea of what UBC states, for what its worth.

RE: Anyone have the 1971 Southern Standard Building Code?

jmm28...depending on where your project is located, it might have been under the South Florida building code, not the SSBC.  Also, I'm fairly sure the SSBC did not issue codes on a two-year cycle, so the 1969 code was likely the prior code to the 1972 code with 1973 amendments.  Further, you will have to check the local adoption ordinance to see which code was actually in force at that time.  Usually the municipalities were several years behind in code adoption.

If South Florida building code, it would have been based on the Uniform Building Code.

The building is in Vero Beach, Florida.  I did contact the Vero Beach Building department and spoke with the Codes and Standards department.  They were the ones who told me that during that year it would have been designed under the 1971 code and were also the ones that gave me the info from the 1969 and 1973 codes.  I guess I will have to check it for worst case and use the 25psf, which will required reinforcement since today's code still uses an quivalent to the 33 psf.  Thanks for all of your help everyone.
