Weld neck Body flanges

Weld neck Body flanges

Weld neck Body flanges

(OP)
i have to design several CS bag filters (cylindrical in shape) with design pr. as 4.4 kg/cm2g and 130degC. On my GAD, client comments "Nozzle flanges upto 24" as per ASME B16.5. Nozzle flanges having size more than 24" and less than 60" shall be as per ASME B 16.47. I understand that B16.47 specifies only WN flanges and blind flng. These filters are mounted on the nozzle of purge column which actually has a Weld neck flange at the connection. It discourages me to use ring type flat face flanges as body flanges(each filter has three nos. body flanges)after visiting these comments. I feel the connecting flange with the nozzle can be made WN however this is not required for the two nos. cover flangesNevertheless these incur some price implication at low budget.
Urgent help appreciated in advance. Pl. let me know for any other information.

RE: Weld neck Body flanges

bluefangs, often you should be able to supply any type flange you want as long as it mates properly to the customer equipment. If I understand the construction, other than mating with an existing nozzle, you have no piping conenctions.

If meeting the bolt circle and other mating dimensions, the flange style shouldn't matter.

However, this is actually the clients' call, and it may matter to him.

Regards,

Mike

RE: Weld neck Body flanges

You always can design your own flanges, per code. The standard flanges are overdesigned anyway, so you might score a saving over that number of flanges. Remember, use only the interface details (PCD, gasket face, bolting).
