Merging part files

Merging part files

Merging part files

(OP)
Two part files have been made into drawings, and one needs to be merged into the other. Can this be done to avoid reproducing the original drawing? There are many complex details, it would be an advantage not to have to do the drawing from scratch.

RE: Merging part files

When you say "merged", do you mean they need to become one part? If so, it stands to reason you'd need one drawing.
If the two parts are becoming an assembly, you can combine the two drawings into a two-sheet drawing so you don't need to recreate.

Yes, the 2 parts will be welded together, and they need to be shown merged as one part. Looks like the original person that did this needed to make it all into one part file from the get go. But, 2 have been created, and each has a complex drawing file associated with it. Not a problem .. if the 2 part files cannot be made into one part file, that answers my question. I can just start detailing a new assembly file. Thanks for the reply.

RE: Merging part files

The file of the two parts welded together should not show all the details for manufacturing, but only the dimensions needed to inspect the assembly, right?
If you use "join" then all the details carry over and maybe you could start your assembly drawing with one of the drawings of one of the parts??

RE: Merging part files

If they are 2 separate parts, then welded, shouldn't it be an assy? Use SW Explorer to replace the part used on the dwg to use the assy.

RE: Merging part files

You have plenty of options depending on what is acceptable to your company & your boss.

1. Create new part & insert both parts into this part & do the required weldment & in cutlist show both parts. Do an extra drawing showing only the welding & positional dimensions. You can also copy sheets from the individual drawing files to this new drawing.

2. Insert part B into part A & that way you will have one part A & add the dimensions of part B into the drawing of part A. I know it involves some work but better than restarting from scratch.
