Velocity of sound (transverse)

Velocity of sound (transverse)

Hi ....

Can anyone tell me if there is an equation to find the transverse velocity of sound in a plate?

Thanks!
Saurabh

Is that what transverse waves are...the bending waves (pardon my ignorance) ....because i need two wave speeds, the longitudinal wave speed and the transverse wave speed. So are you saying that Bending wave speed and transverse wave speed are the same

RE: Velocity of sound (transverse)

its a rectangular/square plate with very small thickness ....almost like a sheet

RE: Velocity of sound (transverse)

OK, yes I'd call the speed of sound in the long dimensions the axial speed of sound, root G/rho, and then the bending waves are the transverse speed of sound, and will be dependent on both frequency and geometry as well.

Cheers

FANTASTIC!....thanks so much..that really soved a lot of problems..coz i had a formula for bending waves speed and it was dependent on the freq and I was wondering if that was correct or not
..thanks again!
