Save Failed: while saving.... out of memory

Save Failed: while saving.... out of memory

Save Failed: while saving.... out of memory

(OP)
Hello,

I am using NX5 on windows XP SP2, every once in a while we are running accross files corrupting on save. When trying to save, an error message will pop up saying, "The following parts failed to save causing the overall save operation to fail:
While saving .........prt: ..........,prt-Out of memory"

There is plenty of disk space and trying to save the file under a different name and/or different drive (local and network) yields the same results.

We do a lot of build to print work, and have to import .tiff images onto our drawings. This is extremely problematic as after 2 images it says "The image is too large" so we go to save and reopen, then these types of saving issues happen.

RE: Save Failed: while saving.... out of memory

I don't think it was referring to disk space, but rather virtual memory.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

I thought of that too, I am running Pentium 4 CPU 3.4GHZx2 with 4Gb of Ram and I allocated 6 Gb to paging just to try to stop these kind of issues because I noticed UG is a memory/processor hog.

While saving the CPU usage shoots up to 100% PF Usage goes to 1.6 Gb so memory shouldn't be an issue. The file I am saving is only 3Mb so it is not large either

RE: Save Failed: while saving.... out of memory

Make your paging twice the size of your RAM if you're able.

Isnt that a moot point (adjusting paging settings) if he's running 32-bit windows and NX?

My admin guy suggests this too.
I'd also be interested to find out more about it.
Are there any web information resources anyone could highlight (or is it in the Help file)?

If NX is topping out at 1.6Gb of RAM then you don't have the /3GB switch enabled.

Have a look at the following link. I always recommend turning it on (some systems don't like it though and will BSOD so make sure you can dual boot to either on or off)

Turning on the 3Gb helped, what I am able to notice now is my PF will start at 382mb then I open UG and it jumps to 1.62Gb I add an image it jumps to 1.94Gb then after the next 2.24Gb then the next image comes in in solid black and I get a 20% memory left error, but I was able to save smile Just for S&Gs I opened CATIA and ran the same test, the PF usage never went over 794mb. So, I guess the new question is why isn't NX5 releasing the PF until I close out the model?

Back to the original concern, I downloaded PDF FLY and was able to take the GM provided PDF GD&T files and turn them into .DXFs and .CGMs I used the file import CGM option and now have my drawings completed. Well worth the $395.00 it cost, simply because it works well and the quality is much better than when inserting a .tiff. I had no idea you could convert .PDFs into CAD files.

Just curious at what BSOD means?
Is it a professional IT acronym or abbreviation for something unprintable?

Anyhow I think I will consult my IT guys before doing this!
Thanks though ... looks like it will solve my problem!

RE: Save Failed: while saving.... out of memory

BSOD is the good ol Blue Screen Of Death of windows fame.

RE: Save Failed: while saving.... out of memory

Of course ... I'm well acquainted with that!! winky smile
