Staging of boilers

Staging of boilers

Staging of boilers

(OP)
Hi

I am loking at staging the boilers in a system 3 boilers 3 pumps constant flow system based on either firing rate of the boiler or on return temperature.

Can you tell me how this is actually done control wise..

I was thinking if the lead boier is ay 90% fired up start the next boiler. If both boilers are then say 90% fired up start the next boiler. however I dont know ho this could be done in reverse especially all 3 boilers are different sizes.
Can this be done off the retun water temperature>?

RE: Staging of boilers

Boilers fire off their own internal aquastats. Boiler controls (e.g., Heat Timer) stage up and down boilers based on supply temperature. The staging provided by manufacturer reps generally performs well. If you were to do it manually through automated controls, increase the number of operating boilers based on inability to maintain secondary HW supply temperature, e.g., 5°F below set point, for 10 consecutive minutes. Reduce the number of operating boilers based on secondary flow; e.g., if two boilers are running, flow below a single boiler's maximum flow for 10 consecutive minutes may constitute a stage-down.
