Fresh concrete temperature prediction

Fresh concrete temperature prediction

Fresh concrete temperature prediction

(OP)
ACI 306R (Cold weather concreting) reports a formula which gives an estimate of the fresh concrete temperature upon condition the weights and temperatures of all constituents of the mix are known.
The formula, which basically is a thermal energy balance of the components before and after mixing, is corrected  in event the temperature of one or more of the aggregates drops below 0 °C (32 °F).

Has anyone practical experience on field that could confirm the reliability of the formula presented by ACI 306R?

RE: Fresh concrete temperature prediction

I've used the equation to produce laboratory trial batches for time-of-set evaluations at various concrete and ambient temperatures.  For that study, it got me within 2 degrees F on all the trials.  From my limited experience, it seemed to hit pretty good.
