Button head plain fastener

Button head plain fastener

Button head plain fastener

(OP)
I am looking for a button head fastener ( about size #8) with a plain, smooth, polished, head... sort of like a carriage bolt, but fully threaded to the head. The application is sort of decorative.

What is the proper name for this type of fastener, and does anyone have a suggested supplier?  I have searched for a while, and come up with nothing.

Thanks!

Hi buchacho

If it has a square section just below the head it would be a coach bolt like this:-

However it appears that coach and carriage bolts are the same thing, try google it gave loads of sites.

Hi LSPSCAT

It could well be what you suggest but what threw me was the plain smooth polished head and no mention of a socket in the head.

Thanks for the replies.  I am not looking for a carriage or coach bolt.  The fastener head is driveless.

Here is an example of what I am looking for, but this supplier is in the UK (I'm in the US), and the thread is not standard (to me).  This example is the closest thing I could find:

What you are looking for are called Dome cover heads. They usually come with a woodscrew as the primary fixing and they just screw in the end as a purely decorative finish as you cannot really apply any torque to them.

They are easily available in the UK, no idea about the USA. They do seem to come with either 5BA or 6BA threads as standard.

Not sure if that is any help to you.

Dome cover heads are not really what I'm looking for.  If I could find the fastener, I would tighten a nut behind it.  It's a decorative application, so not much torque is required.
