How close by code can two welds be made to each other?
How close by code can two welds be made to each other?

Sorry folks, new to the forum and I believe I posted my question in the wrong area. Looking for feedback on the following thread (posted to the Welding, Bonding & Fastener engineering forum):

Those questions are again:
• What, if any, is the relevance to ASME B31.1 of Section VIII Part UW Reqs for Pressure Vessels Fabricated by Welding, Series UW-9, Design of welded joints, paragraph (d))?
o If a pipe was constructed to B31.1, does the boiler code VIII apply in any way to this situation?
• What relevance does NDT have to assuring that the proximity of the welds is satisfactory?
o Can NDT provide assurance that a design meets code?
RE: How close by code can two welds be made to each other?
-None outside of recommended practices.
-No
-None
-Not specified for B31.1
-None
-That's the entire purpose of NDE, albeit not in regards to proximity of two welds.
Long story short, B31.1 is not going to specify a minimum distance for two welds unless it refers to the minimum distance between adjacent openings (see interpretation B31.1-22-7). B31.3 won't either, with the exception of addressing overlapping reinforcement.
