hi all
is there an absolute or least error method of measuring crank shaft deflections on medium speed diesel gensets??
what are the factors to be considered during deflection taking??

Who is the engine manufacture, in our dealings with special adapters for SAE & non std Diesels we have come across everthing from 0.018" to 0.075"

Get with the Manufacture's Sales service engineers and find out what you can exspect!

OTHER THAN ACTUALLY MEASURING A RESTAINED CRANK IN A TEST FIXTURE- I'D HAVE TO SAY FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS.

thanks to all of you.
to reply to all parties who responded, the engine make is niigata 18v32clx rated at 5.8 MW, 660 rpm.
the type of deflection is bending though also interested in torsional deflection.
my fax no office is 254-2 535358.
crank shaft is underslung and has no dot marks for deflection gauge positioning.
