Scaled views and dimention output

Scaled views and dimention output

Scaled views and dimention output

(OP)
When creating dimensions in a scaled drafting view is there a way to contol how the scale is applied to sketches within the view. I have attached a tiff on one case in point. A dimension is created from 3d geometery that is 2.9450. A sketch circle is created over the same spline in the 3d model and a second dimension is created showing 1.104 ( .375 scale, the scale of the view) The acual circle diameter in 3d is .500 If a diam dimension is applied to the sketch then a .1875 is displayed (true diam of circle in this view--no scale) is there a toggle to ensure the sketch/3d combination dimensions have the same scale as the view.
I cant recall this situation comming up in nx 7.0 and below.

RE: Scaled views and dimention output

You are going to have to provide an actual part file of at least a simple example since I can't reproduce what you describe using NX 7.5.1.5 (the as yet to be shipped first Maintenance Release).

John,
I have attached a very simple example of what my problem is. You can see from the file, the dimensions referencing the scketch are not scaled to the view while the dimensions referencing only the model are scaled to the actual size in the 3d.

thoughts?

RE: Scaled views and dimention output

I have to ask.  WHY are you creating sketches in a Drawing view and then extruding them into a solid?  That is NOT how we intended people to use sketches created in a Drawing.

If you are going to create an actual model, please do ALL the work in the Modeling module!  If you then need to make a Drawing, fine, but lets not mix Apples and Oranges, EH?

John,
If you look at the model, the 3d model is done in modeling with a sketch. I then placed a drawing sketch which over laps the 3d model to show the problem I am having. We use drafting sketches to add mfg data that is not part of the 3d part. I would think the sketch created in the drafting module should have the same scale as the modeling module.
In the past we would create a sketch in modeling and have it shown in the drafting view. We thought this is what the sketch in drafting is for???

RE: Scaled views and dimention output

No, being able to sketch in Drafting is intended to support workflows which ONLY require 2D curves.  In essence we are talking about 2D Design, Layout and Drafting.  Generally when there is no need or desire for 3D modeling.
