Check Interference in Assembly Mode - "Save as Part" Output Fails

Check Interference in Assembly Mode - "Save as Part" Output Fails

(OP)
I am having trouble with the "Check Interference" command in the assembly mode in Solid Edge ST (Version 100.00.06.03)

When I select the output option of "Save as Part" I get the error message "The interfering volume could not be created."  Then after selecting "OK", I get "Could not complete the analysis". This error is reproducible and it does not matter what part models are in the assembly.

I thought that I read something somewhere on the Internet about why this occurs and perhaps a work around.

Any help on this would be appreciated.  We are currently without support (company too cheap to pay for maintenance!).
