How can I simulate the stress created by a hose clamp on a plastic body, the kind where a radiator hose fits over a barb on the plastic body and gets clamped? I have never done anything like this in Mechanica.

RE: hoop stress

Troy,

I would create a contact inteference model.  If the hose or plastic part that you are clamping to has a load-deformation response consistent with hyperelasticity then you would need to set the hyperelastic material model on the hose/plastic part.

If the part is sufficiently long you could also use a 2D plain strain model for the simulation.

There really are a multitude of ways to attack this sort of problem.

Good luck,

Steve
