HELP! psychometrics steam ventilation condensing issues

HELP! psychometrics steam ventilation condensing issues

(OP)
Water is used to cool pig castings. im estimating 1000 gal/min of steam generation. the building could be as cool as 50 in winter. i need to know how to decide how much air to ad to the vent system so the steam won't condense. another design parameter is to shoot for 60^ humidity. Please help thanks. also im having trouble determing the humidity ratio. i got psat for the equation % humid=psat/p vapor(from steam table)

thanks and god bless engineers!

RE: HELP! psychometrics steam ventilation condensing issues

You will find it easier to work in specific humidity rather than relative humidity. Deduct specific humidity of incoming air from your desired level and divide that into the steam weight. If you work in gm/m3 then your answer is in m3.

i am not sure how to identify the humidity ratio. i know it is the mass ratio of water vapor to dry air. i don't know how to find either. is it common literature?

RE: HELP! psychometrics steam ventilation condensing issues

You will have to use absolute measures of moisture in the air and then convert to rh after you are done.

Psychrometric charts have moisture in grains/lb of dry air. Temperature and moisture content of the air will both effect condensation.

RE: HELP! psychometrics steam ventilation condensing issues

Can't you set-up an extraction fan & hood near the source so as to evacuate say 10% more than the volume of steam you are generating. It would be better than mixing all that steam with the ambiant air before exhausting it outside.
