Balloon and Qty

Hello,
How do I adjust the spacing between the item balloon and quantity? Is there a custom prop file I can tweak?. The default spacing is just awful.

RE: Balloon and Qty

I have not tried that function, nor found a need for it.

RE: Balloon and Qty

Mac  I don't understand why you want to add quanity to a baloon!! If you have a BOM, that I assume you are tying to the baloons, has quanity listed. I personally feel you are putting in redundant information by listing Qty with the baloon. I try to eliminate all redundacy whenever I can in all drawings. Makes the drawing neater looking, and easier to read.

RE: Balloon and Qty

ArtL,
Some companies use separate BOM docs and not add a BOM on the dwg.
I have worked at 4 companies that do this.

On BOMS and ASME
BOMs on drawings are growing very rare in most newer companies, as there is a reliance on PLMs such as Agile.  In particular, it is specifically disallowed to avoid duplicate information (which increases the chances of error).  BTW, some ASME standards do should the use of qty next to balloons in their examples though it is not explicitly states in the standard verbage (as far as I can tell).

On SolidWorks quirky qty spacing
The spacing in the qty is not adjustable.  It was made that way to support companies that use the term "2 PLACES" or "2 PL" or something similar.  For some reason, the product definition team didn't think about ASME use of qty "2X" as a likely option, so it appears they added the "2X" option as an after thought, which is why it comes out as "2 X".  It is annoying and it does need to be fixed.  I suggest contacting your VAR and asking them how to get rid of the space.  When they cannot tell you, request that the matter be forwarded to SolidWorks as an issue.

Chris,
I think Art was reffering to you working at 4 different companies.

Matt,
Thanks. I'll call our VAR sometime today or tomorrow. I'll keep you posted on the feedback.
