Beam Bearing Plate Design Per 13th Edition

Beam Bearing Plate Design Per 13th Edition

Beam Bearing Plate Design Per 13th Edition

(OP)
I have a personal Exel spreadsheet that computes the thickness for beam bearing plates and column base plates for the 9th edition.  I'm revising my personal spreadsheet for the 13th edition.  Per page 14-6 of the 13th edition I am given an updated thickness formula for calculating column base plates using omega; however, I am not given any information or direction on calculating beam bearing plates under the 13th edition?  Do I still design beam bearing plates under the 9th edition?  Or do I need to update my personal spreadsheet for the 13th edition and where I can find that information?  I designing per ASD.  Thank you, D. L. Clark

RE: Beam Bearing Plate Design Per 13th Edition

Beam bearing plates are discussed on pages 14-3 & 14-4.  Keep in mind that the bearing plate is assumed to distribute the beam end reaction to the supporting material as a uniform bearing pressure by using a canitlevered bending of the bearing plate.  Hope this helps.
