How to read an ASTM specification
How to read an ASTM specification
(OP)
Allo,
I have an hard time to understand the following specification:
Document ASTM A 568/A568-09:
From table X2.2
Element Maximum specified element % Range Lowest max
Carbon to 0.15 incl 0.05 0.08
Manganese to 0.50 incl 0.2 0.40
____
What is the right interpretation?
For the carbon, my spectrum is between 0.1 to 0.15 % or 0.08 to 0.15% ?
For the manganese, 0.30 to 0.50 or 0.4 to 0.7?
Please can you explain to me what is that mean 'Range' and the 'lowest max' of an element?
Thanks,
Le Binh

RE: How to read an ASTM specification
The range values only apply if you are at or above the "lowest max" value. There are grades with lower maximum content restrictions and they have special ranges.
