Steel BEam to concrete shear wall connection

Steel BEam to concrete shear wall connection

(OP)
Good Day folks

Could someone give me examples of how to connect a steel beam to a RC shear wall. As site engineer I remember the embedded plates were sometimes cast into the wall, after striking a fin plate is welded to this and beam then connected. As an example of the situation I refer to:

Say you have a 20 storey building, the concrete shear walls or core walls are constructed first as this can be done rapidly using slipform techniques. The steel framed outer structure is then built floor by floor and tied for stability to the shear walls. This is a common way of construction in the UK. The connections of beams to shear walls need only me pinned connections and thus resist shear.

If embedded plates are used, how are they designed? I have found very little guidance on this. I assume a through bolt connection could also be used.

If someone is experienced in this, please will you let me know how it works and how to design the connection to take a certian shear.

Regards and thanks

Seb

The PCI (precast) manual has design examples of embedded plates with studs.
