How do I permanently embed a JPG image into my drawing do it goes with the drawing without having to include the seperate JPG file ? I have someone here who is constantly moving folders around the network drive, and we can't get him to stop. He's the boss' current favorite... You know how that goes !

Thanks !

RE: Embed linked JPG

Can't be done, but you can try to use "relative" rather than "full" paths and put the images in the drawing folder.

RE: Embed linked JPG

You can embed an image file as an OLE (Insert > OLE Object...). I'm not so sure that's the best way to go though...
You may need to convert the .jpg to a .bmp first.

RE: Embed linked JPG

Drives me nuts.  I am going to "hand draw" the next logo for the layout template, rather than import the marketing image...when I get time...

RE: Embed linked JPG

We have worked around this problem using two different methods. The first method was to create a "pic" folder in each project and keep all of that project's pictures there.  This just helped us locate the pictures more easily and reattach them if the folder was moved, or drive letter reassigned.

The second method we used was to just place the pictures in the "dwg" folder where we keep the .dwg file.  Whenever AutoCAD loads a .dwg file it will, by default, look in the same folder as the .dwg file if it can't find the picture located in the original location.

Yeah, I've used the method creating a special easy to use folder- really a great solution as it creates a standard repository for all to drop their images to and others to mine as needed. Unfortunately, this always led to the other problem of changed folder locations or drive letters, also mentioned. SO- the solution to drop an image file into the local DWG folder solved the connection problem but created the additional problem of "unnecessarily" duplicated files- just ask the boss! So we've lived long term with both up to this point because the alternate solution of embedding an OLE object worked, but it had to be converted to a BMP file first, and ACAD used the method of converting pixels to individual "grouped " solids which GREATLY increased file size, weight of system resources, etc, and slowed everything WAY DOWN !

Thanks for the suggestions ! I'm just returning to ACAD as my primary tool for this next project. We've been using it as a companion, and in some ways primary driver, to another 3D application, and they worked well together. Its just that when you couple some of the still existing rough edges with ACAD (albeit a fine, well matured product) with the kludges of other less mature systems, you try to look for solutions that tend to minimize workarounds if possible.

Thanks again for the input !
