Steel Joist Weight Per Foot

I thought this had come up before, but I can't find anything searching the posts. Why is there a discrepency between the joist weights listed in the "Economical Joist Guide" tab versus the approximate weights listed in the Standard Load Tables in the catalogs? I'm looking at Vulcraft's catalog, but I believe this is pretty universal.

RE: Steel Joist Weight Per Foot

The SJI joist tables are old.

RE: Steel Joist Weight Per Foot

I generally calculate the moment, and determine the As for the chord by using 0.9 of the joist depth, and calclate the weight and multiply by 3 to accommodate the other chord, and the web.  The joist depth (in) is based on 0.7 x the span (ft)... usually gives a pretty close 'guess'.

RE: Steel Joist Weight Per Foot

The Economical Joist Guide weights are Vulcraft's actual joist weights.  The Standard Load Table weights are SJI standard weights, which I assume is an average of various joist manufacturers weights for a particular joist.
