Problem with convert entities in sketches
Problem with convert entities in sketches
(OP)
I have tried to search but I get results only up to 2007. Is the search function inop, or do I have some setting screwed up?
What I am trying to resolve is a problem with convert entities in sketching. I have an assembly with sub-assemblies and parts within it - a box with stuff inside. I am trying to create holes in the box to attach the components. I create a sketch in the case sub-assembly and try to convert entities of the holes in the sheet metal part so I can locate them in the case. The converted entities are offset in the Y or X axis by about .185"
What causes this, and how do I correct it?

RE: Problem with convert entities in sketches
Can you post an image of just the parts involved, or better still, the actual parts in an assy.
RE: Problem with convert entities in sketches
I'm not sure I'm understanding your problem correctly but whenever I'm working in assemblies and trying to edit on the fly and create new holes in relation to other parts I always edit the part I want to cut a hole in within the assembly. If you do this you can still see the other parts of the assembly on screen. Instead of using the "convert sketch entities" feature I would just go up to sketch, pick the face you want to sketch on the sheet-metal part, draw a circle, and then create a center point coincidence or cordial edge relationship between that sketch and the existing hole on your case.
If this hinders some sort of movement you have for the parts in the assembly just delete those relations (now its located and the right size) and dimension them from two of the edges of the component you're editing (not the one with the existing hole) this way the geometrical location and size will be in reference to the edited part (sheet-metal)
if there is any non-parallel plane scenario going on sketch entities probably won't be your best bet.
Hope this helps,

RE: Problem with convert entities in sketches
Is that the way the real holes are made - at the sub-assembly level, with holes already in one of the parts?
I think you need to go down one more level and edit the part within the context of the sub-assembly.
If you can't figure it out attach the sub and two parts involved in this hole making processes. Make sure the sketch with the Include Geometry is present so that someone can see exactly were it all went wrong with the projection.

Thanks for all the help.
