No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

If the website keeps moving around, I would hold off on downloading it.  There may be a bigger problem (like trojan-ware) going on.  Let the dust settle.

The website has only moved once, but the Open Office Design Table has been removed from it's Download section.

I also notice the thread in SW forum has been drastically cut back to only the first three posts.

WTF ?

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

There is issues to be resolved(not in the program).. And sorry that I was in hurry and linked wrong htm-file. Just wanted you to know that domain has changed, in case someone setups spn.office-on-the.net and starts to deliver some malware etc. I removed the download for now, but hopefully it will be back in next week(if all the things are in order).

Are you able to say why SW removed related posts from their forums?

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

I am able to say that I removed those posts.

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

Fair enough. I'm looking forward to its return.

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

Does issues mean what I think it means? In that case, congratulations :) If not, looking forward to its return too.

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

Added the new one to my sites. And for small correction for this threads subject: this is not replacement for native Design tables! I still hope you find this useful.

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

Excellent, thanks!

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

You`re welcome! Just added new feature to drive materials in part models, this should be nice and waited feature for everyone =)

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

This should work with LibreOffice too :)

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

SPN-ConfigurationDesigner is now upgraded to development version 1.9. Many people were asking if it could be possible also drive subcomponents from assembly spreadsheet, now it should be possible, if someone wants to use it in that way.

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

SPN-ConfigurationDesigner is now upgraded to (hopefully) stable version 2.0. App is changed from VSTA to add-in and now ConfigurationDesigner opens up from right click menu. Huge mount of bugs has been fixed from development version 1.9 and also all of the missing driving values has been added (sw-mass, cog, fixed etc)

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

If I use SPN to make a DT inside my part, anyone that accesses that part, to make a change, do they need to have SPN installed to access the DT?

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

It works same way as excel based design table. If you have not set dimensions read-only then the next user can modify the model normally without opening the spreadsheet = no need for SPN-ConfigurationDesigner. But for accessing the spreadsheet user must have SPN-ConfigurationDesigner.

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

That's what I need to know. I plan to have the users access the DT to make the changes and new configs via the Design table. If the users have to have SPN, then this new add-in does not help us here.

I am making start parts for our users, and they will have to be able to access the DT to start a new part to make changes, then what they do after that will have no effect on the DT further.

Thanks for your quick reply!

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

Ok, then I suggest that you use SolidWorks "Configure feature" or "Configuration publisher" -tools for configuring models.

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

Well I want to use the VBA tools to give it a more straight forward feel. I have used DT's in the past to some very high extents and I want to apply the VBA code to make a programable part. Since there seems to be limitations to using VBA code in Design Tables I will have to approach this from outside of Solidworks and make a completely separate excel table that will program part. This can be accomplished pretty easy through VBA.

I used to have an assembly on my website that you could make a change to the Excel sheet and push a button and the assembly would update. No where in the SW model was there a relationship to an internal/external DT.

It was pretty slick and I think this is going to have to be my choice for the automation I seek.

Best Regards,

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

There was some discussions on SolidWorks forums about that kind of tool. Do not remember the threads name but maybe you could find it from there.

Also VBA support for new versions of SolidWorks is not so good as it was earlier, for example 64-bit platforms you could encounter some issues.

RE: No longer need Excel for Design Tables !!

There is now also userforum for bug reports and feature requests: http://www.spn-technologies.fi/forum/

Thanks for everyone who have been involved in this project :)
