Pin Dia & Meas Over Pins

Pin Dia & Meas Over Pins

Pin Dia & Meas Over Pins

(OP)
After many years of the shop running the show, we have decided it is time to bring our drawings up to date. Everything was going quite nicely until we came to the sheaves. The Machinery's Handbook has a nice chart that provides K for standard combinations of pin diameter and V angle and OD, but our designs are not always within the parameters found in the Handbook. To calculate the measurement over pins myself I think I need to calculate the chord length at the pitch dia for the V angle we are using, determine an optimum pin diameter for that chord length and V angle and OD combination, then calculate how much of the pin is above that chord length. Am I getting close, what have I forgotten? What's the chance there is a formula for this somewhere that I can look up? Any advice, comments, or suggestions anyone would care to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.
