VGT turbos

VGT turbos

VGT turbos

(OP)
HI, I'm Pedro (Mec. Eng.) From Portugal and I own a workshop that prepares 4X4 vehicles.
I have many questions about the VGT turbos.
I normally install VGT turbos in diesel engines, but I allways have the same question, is this the correct turbo for this engine?
I know the math for high pressure turbos but i dont know the engine or the VGT numbers to apply so I get some valid results.
Can you help me? please?
I work with toyota engines (3b, 15bft, 1kzte), land rover 200TDI,300TDI and TD5, Mitsubishi 4m40 or 4m41, Nissan Patrol 2.8 turbo or 3.0 turbo.....
Thank you.
PS- sorry my poor English

RE: VGT turbos

You may already know this but these are the basics:
- You need to estimate the air flow requirements of the engine at the key operating points (e.g. peak torque and max power
- you need the compressor maps for the turbochargers you are considering
- you need to be able to translate the engine air flow requirements onto the compressor maps
- you need a method for translating the compressor operating point onto a turbine operating point.  The best way is using a simulation program like GTPower (this normally requires a well-developed engine model as well).  Other methods include trial and error by analysis, and trial and error by experimentation.
- you should anticipate further experimentation on the actual vehicle after the initial turbo match
