Design problem: From tensile specimens to complex geometry

Design problem: From tensile specimens to complex geometry

Design problem: From tensile specimens to complex geometry

(OP)
Hello,
I am trying to find an appropriate theory that describes the behavior of our fully-nonlinear composite. There are several options already implemented in ANSYS and I am trying to get something out of them.
So far, I am only trying to simulate tensile and shear cases.

In the upcoming months, I have to find a proper approach which can approximate the behavior of our material. So that part, I will try already implemented codes and see which is the most advantageous one.

What I want to ask you is:

my boss is asking me to think about a complex geometry specimen (which can be tested with tensile maschine, some small modifications to the maschine is acceptable, like putting some parts for bending tests and so on...) and then make an experiment with that specimen (at the same time we will look at the stress-strain distribution with camera so we will see the distribution over whole specimen) and try to simulate it with my already chosen approximate finite element approach and compare it. Unfortunately,
I have no experience about specimen design for test/simulation so I thought maybe I should ask it to you.

I have plates of "0,5 cm" thickness and out of those plates, i can cut any geometry as long as it makes sense to test it. The aim of the complex geometry test is to see how my model will behave under complex loadings.

Could you please suggest me some readings/or if you have, any ideas or experiences? I would greatly appreciate it.

Best Regards,
Sartor
