UG ZIP Is not working

UG ZIP Is not working

UG ZIP Is not working

(OP)
NX 6.0.2.8
XP Professional

I had installed the UP Zip utility some time ago and was able to integrate it into the NX menu system. I assume it was working at that time but I haven't used it for quite a while.

When I recently tried to run it I was unsucessful in getting the UP Zip dialog box to execute the utility. There is not much to enter in it and after typing in the assembly part number it does not progress to the point where the "OK" button becomes available to execute the utility.

I've tried clicking on the assembly rather than entering it's number. I've tried picking it from the assembly navigator. I have tried to browse to the assembly using the "..." button to the right of the entry field for the part number however when ever I click on either browse buttons in the dialog box, the dialog box closes.

I'm I missing something obvious here? I've downloaded the the utility again and reinstalled it with the same results.

Has anyone experienced the same problem?

Thanks,

RE: UG ZIP Is not working

I just tested this with NX 6.0.5.3 and it works fine, either zipping the current Work Part or one I explicitly selected on my system.  Since you're not at the latest release of NX 6.0 I would recommend that you update NX, and try again.

Thank you John for your speedy reply. We are moving to 7.5 shortly so I'll wait till then to sort it out.

I wanted to use the UP Zip untility to copy an assemby from a directory with many non-related parts to another directory that's a more appropriate location. I know I can copy and paste in windows explorer but I was hoping to avoid the tedious process of doing so manually.

I also have read about the ugpc ulility and thought I could pipe its output to the copy command and very simply and easily accomplish my goal at the command line prompt. Something like:

ugpc 1234.prt | copy c:\newdir

I haven't been able to crack that nut yet. I'm guessing that my syntax is off and that the output from the ugpc has to be formated differently. Maybe it should be ugpc -a ....

Any insight anyone may be able to provide would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You can use the Clone assembly function to copy all those files in one location. You will have to play with the options a bit, but it allows you to do a 'dry run' before committing to those options.

Assemblies -> Cloning -> Create Clone assembly...

I have also tried using the clone functionality. It appears that when using the clone function that the parts must all be renamed. I do not wish to change part names but just to copy them to another directory. I spoke with GTAC on this subject and they also recommended the clone function. They said that you will have to rename the parts and then clone the assembly a second time to change the part names back to their original values.

I did try this and added a prefix to all the parts names but when it came time to clone the second time to change the names back I could not find a way to remove the prefix.
I had expected that I could replace the prefix with nothing and strip it back off. Unfortunately the replace function requires an entry. It will not run without an entry in that field. I tried typing in the ascii code for a null character but that did not work. So I am back to where I started.

RE: UG ZIP Is not working

what i do is add a suffix, and just type a "space" then if you execute, it works and doesn't add a space after

RE: UG ZIP Is not working

With ugzipc you'll have to get the correct dll for your installation there are several other sources on the internet where the source has been recompiled for XP/64 or XP/32 bit and I'm really not sure for Windows 7 yet.

RE: UG ZIP Is not working

I'm running the original (Oct 2004) 32-bit version of UGZip with NX 5.0, NX 6.0, NX 7.0 and NX 7.5 on Windows 7 (64-bit) and so far I've not had any problems.

Is it possible that UGZIP requires some license like "UG/Open API Execute" that I don't have in my Mach 1 bundle?

RE: UG ZIP Is not working

I found in another thread the key to using cloning to backup files to anther directory without changing part names. The key is to add a blank space as a suffix as the naming rule. The dialog box accepts this input but the blank space is never placed in the cloned part names. Although I have not tried it I would suppose that this would also work if you used a blank space as a prefix.

This works well and there is no need to clone twice.

Thanks all,
