Anchor Bolt

Anchor Bolt

Anchor Bolt

(OP)
Hi,

Eng design specified B7 Anchor bolts for Pre-Eng building on Water reservoir. Because of 1-1/4" size was long delivery item, contractor proposed Higher strength Alloy Threaded Rod(I am not sure but it was A7), which has better strength that B7 . Is it safe to go higher strength?

Thanks,

Rakesh

RE: Anchor Bolt

The bolts we deal with are normally specified to have anchorage adequate for the yield strength of the bolt, so if you increase bolt strength, it requires additional anchorage strength as well.

RE: Anchor Bolt

In this case, the concrete will likely be the limiting factor, so OK to go to higher strength.

RE: Anchor Bolt

I don't know what A7 or B7 means in aust we have 4.6 and 8.8 with a few other variations, If A7 is a higher strength bolt there could be increased construction tolerances, due to the bolt becoming less ductile.

An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made in a very narrow field

RE: Anchor Bolt

Are these anchors installed under ACI Appendix D?  If so, the ductility requirement could be significant.
