Vertex?
Vertex?
(OP)
NX6. Is there a wat to create a vertex (point) outside of sketch? My ability to us this instruction:
"4. On the 'General' tab of the Point Properties dialog, enter a string such as
'PT' and select 'Add Index to Name'. Then, select 'Ok'."
Is not functioning. It only works on Vertex points created in Sketch and ON non-associated points in Modeling.
Thanks

RE: Vertex?
OK, NX 6.0. Well, it works perfect for me. Even if the points were Associative.
I created a few 'smart' points using the...
Insert -> Point...
...and then selected them all by rectangle pick. I then placed the cursor over one of the highlighted points, pressed MB3 and selected the 'Properties' option. On the General tab I entered PT as the 'Name' and toggled on the 'Add index to name' option leaving the 'Starting index' set to '1', and hit OK. Now if you go to...
Preferences -> Visualization...
...and go to the 'Names/Borders' tab and change the 'Object Name Display' to 'Work View' and hit OK.
Now looking at the screen you will see that the points are labeled with their object names, which are PT1, PT2, PT3, etc. These are now the names of the POINT OBJECTS (but not the POINT FEATURES) which can be used to select the points using the 'Name Selection' tool on the Selection Bar. You can select individual points by entering the names 'PT1' or 'PT2', etc. Or you can select them all using a wildcard, in this case 'PT*'.
You can use this object Properties capabilities to assign 'names' to any NX object and once named they can be selected using these names either interactively or by your NX Open applications.

RE: Vertex?
However, the Properties 'naming' scheme is NOT automatic and therefore the ONLY way that it KNOWS that we might wish to add an 'index' number is IF the user actually selects MORE than ONE item.
BTW, please don't suggest that we change this as this has been working like this for at least 20 years and I wouldn't want a developer to waste even a single second thinking about this.

RE: Vertex?
I checked it out in sketching using NX-7 actually and I found that by selecting one point the tick box for "add index to name" presented itself. The difference that I noted and which I suspect also fooled wecurb was that in modelling you seem to be required to select more than one point before that tick box becomes available. The difference is only one of very slight emphasis between the user interface in sketching and modelling environments that would probably never have been noticed otherwise.
Anyway to be honest I don't recall that UGII V6 twenty years ago ever even had sketches!
