Baffled Extractor Fan Question

Baffled Extractor Fan Question

Baffled Extractor Fan Question

(OP)
First off Hi all, my first post here.

Right I think my question should be fairly straight forward for you. We have a large centrifugal extractor fan used for removing MDF dust from several cnc machines. The fan outlet is baffled to reduce the airflow in the system.

If we close this baffle it makes relatively huge changes to the current/power that the fan is drawing, is this usual and could you please explain why, I would think the power consumption should be fairly consistent but the way it's operating seems counter intuitive if anything.

Thanks for any replies.
