Water Content in Automotive Engine Exhaust Gas

Water Content in Automotive Engine Exhaust Gas

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I would like to know if anyone would be able to help me calculate the Moisture Content / Water vapour content in the Exhaust Gas of an Engine.
I wish to determine the components of the Exhaust Gas for a Combustion Chamber in my Company (so that I am able to calculate the Gas Constant of the Exhaust Gas) and I have been able to measure the values of Oxygen and Carbon di oxide.
The components that I am taking into account for the Gas Constant calculation are O2, CO2, N2 and H2O.
I would be glad if anyone is able to suggest me the right set of Formulae to calculate the Water COntent in Exhaust.
Thank you in advance.

with Regards,
Santhosh Kumar

RE: Water Content in Automotive Engine Exhaust Gas

C7 H16 + O22 = 7 CO2 + 8 H2O

+ 80% nitrogen in the original air and insignificant amounts of other junk.

A periodic table will give you the atomic weights.

This is basic high school chemistry.

Pat

Get or borrow a copy of Heywood's popular book.  There is a whole chapter section devoted to exhaust gas composition.

RE: Water Content in Automotive Engine Exhaust Gas

outlet stream=sum of inlet streams
inlet streams=air(with moisture content)+fuel
really basic chemistry
