Century Repulsion Start-Induction Motor Help

Century Repulsion Start-Induction Motor Help

(OP)
I also Posted this one somewhere else.

I have a Century Electric Motor that is attached to a really old pipe organ.

It is a Single Phase 1 hp 110/220V Motor.

When i first got to it, I saw there were no brushes in it, so i went ahead and bought some that i thought would fit.

I installed them into the machine, and now the motor spins, but the brushes do not come off. This leads me to two theories. The first being that since the brushes arent tapered, the motor isnt reaching full speed and so the brushes arent coming off. The second is that There might be something wrong with the mechanism that is supposed to take back the brushes. However if it is the latter i dont know how to proceed with repairing it.

Any Ideas?

I will go ahead and taper the brushes, but just in case that is not the issue... help?

RE: Century Repulsion Start-Induction Motor Help

Have you tried contacting A. O. Smith for service parts?

I have, however this motor wasnt manufactured by them, so they have no documentation, i spoke to the ones who did and they didnt either. If anyone has a serial number/case type that i can use it would be fantastic.

The motor nameplate says century electric, but they do no have any record for the serial number or the case number.

If anyone has any info on a similar one which i could use to request info that would help also.

I dont have pics but it looks like this one
