Pressure Vessel vs. Pump

Pressure Vessel vs. Pump

Pressure Vessel vs. Pump

(OP)
Hi everyone,
What standard is for constructing of water pumps? I think they should not be built to ASME BPVC VIII, Div1, 2 or 3, don't they?
Thank you
Curtis

RE: Pressure Vessel vs. Pump

My vote would be ANSI B73.1 or ANSI B73.2.

RE: Pressure Vessel vs. Pump

I designed dual acting hydraulically driven pressure intensifiers up to pressures of 200,000 psig. I used Div 2 for intermediate pressures of 30 to 60 ksi, due to their monobloc wall construction & performed the std Div 2 fatigue analyses. Above 60 ksi, multiple walls (shrink fit) & autofrettage are required to get any useful life out of the pump barrels. For this I designed to Div 3 & used Abaqus & the Div 3 guidelines to account for the Bauschinger effect, shrink fit, etc to extract the principal stresses as input for the LEFM & calculate the fracture life & also if it was leak before break or fast fracture & if the outer barrel met the guidelines for pressure containment upon failure of the inner barrel.

RE: Pressure Vessel vs. Pump

That was a heck of a water pump...

SNORGY.
