FEA Simulation

FEA Simulation

(OP)
Hi all – I want to simulate how a hole deforms when a larger Pin is inserted all the way through it. The part containing the hole is made of plastic and the pin going thru is made of steel. How can I set this up in CATIA Elfine?

Thank you very much

I've forgot to mention that the plastic part has hole diameter of 0.1780" and the Pin diameter is 0.19155"

RE: FEA Simulation

Al, this questions would do better if possed in the CATIA products forum. Futhermore, I think you might find that this problem might be more complex than a pin in a hole. You are going to have plastic deformation with the amount of press fit in those two materials. I am not familiar with that particular program but before you start you will want to make sure it can solve non-linear problems.

If you are new to FEA in general, you might want to work with someone experienced in correctly setting up the model and more importantly interpreting the results.

Thank Grimmy

RE: FEA Simulation

i'm not sure that Elfine can apply this load.  Lame equations (or Timoshenko) relate radial displacement to hoop pressure around the hole.

You might also look at doing this in Solidworks, the GUI is much simpler and for all intents and purposes, just as accurate for what you're asking.
