Problem opening large Pro/e files..PLZ HELP!!!
(OP)
Hi,
I am into a project where I need to open large Pro/e files ranging from 1-4GB.Until now I haven't succeeded in opening the top assembly file in pro/e.It shows at cueline "Memory Error" and close by itself immediately. I have tried it now atleast a 100 times.I have tried 'Open rep' too. But still the same result.
My system config : 4GB RAM,64-bit Windows OS,a virtual memory of 6 GB..isn't that enough?
Do I need a RAM upgrade?..I doubt that because the funniest part is that in my colleague's system which has the same config as mine even though has shown memory error once has succeeded in opening the files later. Why is that?...I am totally confused and completely stuck here. What could be the problem? What is the solution? Please help me..anyone?

For 4GB of ram on XP64, try setting your virtual space to 8GB or even 12GB.

Thanks for your response.
I have tried that too. The virtual memory was 2.5GB then upgraded to 6,8 and 10GB.
I am attaching a screenshot here. Where you can find the "memory Error" message at the bottom left corner and the Task Manager showing memory usage

Convert some of your subassys (released and rarely changing) into Simplified refs.. it'll shrink yoru mem usage.
Good luck!

Thank you for your suggestions.
I have tested upgrading the RAM to 8GB once and even took it to our analysis lab's high-end with 64GB RAM to dismiss any doubts whatsoever. And still it didn't open which shows the 'memory' part of the memory error message is referring to the VGA card memory, the only possibility left. What do you guys think?

It takes loads more video memory to render the colours for each regeneration of the screen.
No promises...just worth a try.
