UG to SolidWorks with correct orientation

UG to SolidWorks with correct orientation

UG to SolidWorks with correct orientation

(OP)
Hello all.   the company that i work for is about to start and  transfer project to move all the UG assemblies to Solidworks.  this is very simple to do, just by opening up the UG file in Solidworks it creates the SW part automatically. However the Orientation is off for example when you view the front view it is rotated to the top view.  again, this is easy to fix by selecting the entire assembly, right click, select rotate, select view orientation and you can change it there..  So my question is, is it possible to change all the conponent parts to do the same without opening every single part??

thanks for advice

RE: UG to SolidWorks with correct orientation

Orientation is correct: X is still X, Y is still Y, Z is still Z.  Front, Top, Right are just subjective names for views of the same base coordinate system.

TheTick, thanks for the explanation of XYZ..  but do you understand my issue and the best way to do this?

RE: UG to SolidWorks with correct orientation

Yes, I do understand the issue.  Name for X-Y view is different in SW than in UG.  It's still the X-Y view, though.  If you are astute enough to separate your thinking from relativist names "Top", "Front", and "Right", you will see everything is correct.

If you don't like the view names, you can change them to "Ted", "Max", and "Beatrice".

Do you understand?

RE: UG to SolidWorks with correct orientation

UG to SW.  Perhaps he doesn't.  :P

RE: UG to SolidWorks with correct orientation

PS.  I just double checked what TheTick said UG->SW and vice verca and i can confirm it (i already did this a while ago but wanted to double check what v2010 did with NX files).

IMO its solidworks that is back-to-front in this case.  it considers the "TOP" view to be viewing in -Y.  Which makes no sense to me.  Z is the height direction which is the height.

But anyways. :P
