Inventor part to step

Inventor part to step

Inventor part to step

I received a part in Inventor format from one of my suppliers and it won't open in SolidWorks. I don't even know if the file is valid or not. I am asking someone who has Inventor please download the part and repost it in step or acis format so I can insert it in my assembly.

RE: Inventor part to step

File may be corrupt.
Ask your supplier to save it as IGES or Parasolid.

RE: Inventor part to step

Do you have the Inventor Viewer installed?  It must be installed for SW to open .ipt parts.

Thank you rollupswx.

I installed the Inventor viewer and I still can't open that part in SW. I am using SW2009 SP4.1

Uhmmm, I thought I converted the file to STEP for you as requested?

RE: Inventor part to step

dogarilla ... you are probably experiencing an incompatibility of versions. The Inventor Viewer you downloaded may not be suitable for your version of SW, or the Inventor version in which the part was created.

Till you get that sorted, the STEP file rollupswx supplied, or my parasolid may have to suffice.

I thought

and the fact that I gave a star to the guy made it obvious that I downloaded and used his STEP model.

... and I thought that

meant you were having trouble opening the original Inventor file even though you had installed the Viewer.

Take note that rollupswx was also somewhat confused by that statement.

Yes, I still can't open the original Inventor file in SW. I will worry about that some other time or never. I downloaded and used rollupswx's step file.
