Is sulfur erosive on a pump

Is sulfur erosive on a pump

Is sulfur erosive on a pump

(OP)
I have gasoline with 3661ppmw (0.36%) of sulfur at 38degrees C.
Can somebody advise me if this concentration can actually damage my wear rings/faces.
I've read gasoline can be eventually sold at 500ppm... but more than 7 times this concentration!!! hummm!!!
What kind of measures do I have to take, from the pump constructive point of view.

Thanks

RE: Is sulfur erosive on a pump

Sulfur + water = sulfuric acid.  There is often enough water running around in pipelines and tanks to cause considerable trouble if sulfur is present.  I think you qualify. I sure wouldn't want to deal with that quantity in my gasoline.  Lots of blending, assuming you could find a better source.  Might be better to get it out some other way.

RE: Is sulfur erosive on a pump

I don't know if it has any bearing on your situation, but when the Sulphur was removed from automotive diesel, lubricant additive packages had to be added to the fuel to make up for the loss of the anti friction characteristics of the fuel.

Modern pumps have been redesigned to design around the lack of sulphur lubrication.  But early on......
