Satellite structure too stiff

Satellite structure too stiff

Satellite structure too stiff

(OP)
Hi there,

I have performed a sinusoidal vibration test on a shaker(5-2000 Hz) on a cubic aluminium alloy structure. The first resonance was about 510 Hz wich is good for the satellite but the test stopped because the structure was too stiff and the amplification factor was about 90 g. The satellite structure is formed of different shells (thickness 8mm) and the overall dimensions 600 x 600 mm².
I have been told to increase the damping of the structure using damper tapes. Did any one have a practical idea how to deal with this?

THANKS

RE: Satellite structure too stiff

From what I heard, you put the tape in joints, kind of like washer.  It soaks up energy from the intercomponent motions.

Hi

in fact this is one possibility, but I do not know if it is enough to damp the structure. and to test the satellite continuously will dammage (fatigue) the structure.
I do not know if ribs in the structure could help.

Thanks

You're right

I tought to remove a certain amount of material and replace it with ribs or even use isogrid technique.

RE: Satellite structure too stiff

Google the term "constrained layer damping".
