Nitinol and TEC simulation

Nitinol and TEC simulation

(OP)
I'm trying to model a shape memory alloy actuator with a flexible microthermoelectric element, but can't find either of these components in SW2010 Simulation.  I've found online that this ability exists:

http://help.solidworks.com/2010/english/SolidWorks/cworks/LegacyHelp/Simulation/Materials/Material_models/Nitinol_Material_Model.htm
http://help.solidworks.com/2010/english/SolidWorks/floxpress/LegacyHelp/FloXpress/Topics/What_You_Can_Do_in_COSMOSFloWorks.htm?id=872a04a9fcb245f0afa8c15feb6301f5

I can't find where these materials and objects are, and there is zero help available in the software help/tutorials.  Has anyone tried this?

Thanks, and good to be here!

Thought I was using Simulation.  How can I check if its COSMOS/M?

RE: Nitinol and TEC simulation

You don't have to check. Simulation isn't Cosmos/M though you likely have it installed. Check Programs for geostar. If you have that you have Cosmos/M. Run geostar if you do. You will be in for a ride if you have to go that route. But we're here to help.

I don't see geostar anywhere, I do see the simulation tab in the top toolbar, and in that, study advisor, apply material, fixtures advisor, etc.  It does seem like this is Simulation.  Thanks for the quick replies too btw!

RE: Nitinol and TEC simulation

You won't find geostar in the SW user interface. You have to look in START/PROGRAM FILES/COSMOS last time I checked. Cosmos/M is a standalone program with no interface to SolidWorks. It has the core functionality that is slowly finding it's way into SolidWorks Simulation.

It doesn't appear to be there, ran a search through program files and came up with nothing.  Does this mean I won't be able to run these simulations?  I also have COMSOL at my dispose if SolidWorks isn't going to work out in the end.

I will note I'm far less experienced with COMSOL than SolidWorks, which I'm still learning as well.  I appreciate your help!

RE: Nitinol and TEC simulation

I have seen Cosmos/M bundled with Simulation, but I am not sure which versions it goes with.

That help page you quoted sure looked like Cosmos/M commands. You might ask your VAR if you have it or if it can be installed as an option.
