Question Concerning Existing Composite Floor Structure
Question Concerning Existing Composite Floor Structure
(OP)
I'm currently working on an upgrade to an existing floor structure which has composite metal deck and steel beams with shear studs. The upgrade calls for the complete removal of the existing composite floor system down to the existing steel beams, and then replacing with a new composite floor system with shear studs. I'm concerned with what needs to be done to with the beams after the existing floor and shear studs have been removed. Does the beam need to be repainted?, does the stud weld need to be ground off? Just how big of a concern are these things and what am I missing?

The welds could be left in place, as their presence is beneficial to the bond in between concrete and steel, but if specification calls for complete removal, contact enginner.
