Energy Utilization INdex

Energy Utilization INdex

(OP)
Can anybody give me an idea about Energy Utilization Index of different types of buildings and applications. And how to compute it! thanks in advance

RE: Energy Utilization INdex

The EnergyStar web site should be able to give you some good ideas. The survey data is aged, but if you go into Portfolio Manager, you should b able to get a good idea of energy usage intensity by different types of buildings in different regions.

RE: Energy Utilization INdex

Energy Utilization depends on 1. Usage and 2. Locality.

For a same usage or application, energy utilization could be much different if location is not same. An office building's energy in gulf has much higher rate than in india.

It comes from the experience of that local region. For example i can give you the utilization rates of nearly all the middle east. Most of the times, it does depend upon the local authorities also. In kuwait e.g the electricity authority wont allow the residential building to exceed 65W/m2. Whereas they wont even allow to be lesser than 50 W/m2

RE: Energy Utilization INdex

It depends on many factors: insulation, fenestration, HVAC system type, and outdoor air requirement etc. The best answer to your question is building energy simulation. Some simple methods are also avaliable, such as bin method, degree-day method etc. Check ASHRAE Fundamental for information.
